Reissued: 1951 Bar Stool Emeco

It was lost for a long time and was rediscovered in 2003. A stroke of luck for the designer company Emeco, because this bar stool from 1951 is now a jewel for every home after its careful revival. Designer Adrian van Hooydonk of BMW Designworks has succeeded in completely preserving the charm of the 50s and giving it a modern, lighter touch. The handcrafted aluminium frame is elegant and dynamic, the seat and backrest made of recycled plastic blend in smoothly. In 2020, there was another colour update for the 1951 chair, it is now available in six new colours that brighten up any room with the bold red and yellow - or spread simple elegance in the dignified tones. The colours can also be wonderfully combined in a seating group.

Between car and furniture design: BMW Design Group

With the commissioning of designer Adrian Van Hoodonk for a revival of the long-lost 1951 chair, the design company Emeco has scored a real coup. The car and furniture designer from Southern California has created a genuine Emeco that fulfils everything a chair must fulfil today without losing its classic face. Simple, functional with a more dynamic "attitude", the 1951 chairs now come along. The design phase, Van Hoodynk says, was one of the most collaborative and rewarding experiences of his life. "I had dealt with similar issues in designing modern cars for the Mini and BMW brands." 1951 is the first Emeco product to combine new materials for the seat and backrest with a classic aluminium construction. The recycled aluminium frame is manufactured using the same 77-step process as the original Navy chair. The seat and backrest underline Emeco's sustainability character and are made of the recycled plastic rPET, specifically: plastic bottle waste.
