Description
Icon: CH24 Wishbone Chair from Carl Hansen
The CH24 Wishbone Chair by Carl Hansen, also known as the Y-Chair, is an icon among chairs.
Designed by Hans J. Wegner in 1950, the elegant wooden chair is still extremely popular today.
There are two things that make the Wishbone Chair so unmistakable: firstly, its strong characterful design with the very personalised Y-symbol on the backrest and secondly, the quality guaranteed by the highest standards of craftsmanship.
Carl Hansen & Søn - Danish design since 1908
What began in 1908 as a small furniture workshop on the Danish island of Funen has developed into a successful and globally recognised design company. Since the carpenter Carl Hansen founded the company, two aspects have taken centre stage: an uncompromising commitment to the finest craftsmanship and collaboration with exceptional designers.
The development of Carl Hansen & Søn was significantly influenced by the well-known Danish designer Hans J. Wegner. The creative connection with him began in 1949 when Carl Hansen's son met Wegner and enabled the then still unknown designer to design an extensive furniture series. The Wishbone Chair, also known as CH24, is part of the collection conceived at that time and is absolutely well-known and popular today.
Material and format
The seat is made from 120 metres of hard-wearing paper yarn, which is woven into the frame by hand. A total of one hundred manual steps are required before the Y-Chair leaves the Carl Hansen & Søn factory. Maximum seating comfort and the essence of modern Danish design - that is what characterises the Wishbone Chair.
Would you like a different version?
On request, all colour-lacquered versions are also available with classic white wickerwork.
The mixed version with frame / backrest in oak / walnut or walnut / oak is only available with natural-coloured wickerwork.
We are happy to offer you all versions of the CH24 Wishbone Chair. Just get in touch with us!
- NOTE: Due to the high-quality, handmade wickerwork, one of the chair legs may appear shorter as the wickerwork is very tightly bound. This regulates itself after about a month of normal sitting when the weave loosens. -
