Bauhaus style: Marianne Brandt ashtray from Alessi

The ashtray from Alessi is part of the project household accessories and is particularly simple. The only woman to work in the metal workshop of the Bauhaus , Marianne Brandt, developed this design. 

Marianne Brandt joined the Bauhaus in Weimar in 1923. She attended the preliminary course with Josef Albers and László Moholy-Nagy as well as lessons with Paul Klee and Wassily Kandinsky. She also worked inLászló Moholy-Nagy's metal workshop at , where this design was created. From May 1928 to 1 July 1929, Brandt was the director of the metal workshop and had made a name for herself in the male-dominated field.

Material and format

The ashtray is made of polished stainless steel.
