Ahead of his time - designer Marcel Breuer
Today, we are very familiar with its unagitated lines. The inventor Marcel Breuer initially found it difficult to assert himself against the cluttered furnishing style around 1920 with his reduced furniture made of tubular steel. The Thonet brothers recognised the potential of tubular steel furniture early on and rose to become the leading international producer of tubular steel furniture in the 1930s. Breuer's designs are now regarded as milestones in the history of furniture design.
Thonet - over 200 years of tradition
The Frankenberg-based manufacturer stands for durability and an irrepressible drive for innovation. Thonet was the first manufacturer to introduce bentwood furniture to the market and the first to market tubular steel furniture. Michael Thonet founded his own workshop in Boppard am Rhein in 1819. In the 1830s he experimented with strips of veneer boiled in glue and is therefore regarded as the inventor of "furniture made of bent wood". In 1842, he was invited to Vienna by the Austrian state chancellor Prince Metternich and the coffee house culture there laid the foundation for Thonet's later success. Given this desire for innovation, it is not surprising that Thonet also cultivated links with the Bauhaus and Marcel Breuer. For example, Thonet implemented Breuer's experiments with cold-bent tubular steel and produced the famous cantilever chairs.
Material and format
The side table measures 130 cm wide, 39 cm deep and 50 cm high. The frame is made of chromed round steel tube 20 x 2 mm thick. The table top can be ordered with top coat (no wood structure visible), textured lacquer or stained.
The set tables B 9 and in particular the smaller model B 9 a can also be combined, two of which can be slid under the B 10 side table.
