Cosiness: CH22 Lounge Armchair Carl Hansen & Søn
CH22 by Carl Hansen is one of the first designs by Hans J. Wegner for Carl Hansen from 1950. Hans J. Wegner already expressed his artistry and attention to detail in this early design. One of the designer's main concerns was to reduce a construction until only its essence remains.
Thus, the CH22 armchair appears harmonious, but not at all overloaded. Later, Hans J. Wegner made a variant of the CH22 armchair to qualify it for the dining room - the CH26 chair, which you can also order here in the online shop.
Carl Hansen & Søn - Danish Design since 1908
What started in 1908 as a small furniture workshop on the Danish island of Funen has developed into a successful and globally renowned design company. Since the carpenter Carl Hansen founded the company, two aspects have been in the foreground: the uncompromising commitment to the finest craftsmanship and the collaboration with exceptional designers.
Thus, the development of Carl Hansen & Søn was significantly influenced by the well-known Danish designer Hans J. Wegner. The creative connection with him began in 1949 when Carl Hansen's son met Wegner and enabled the then unknown designer to create an extensive furniture series. One part of the collection conceived at that time is the today absolutely well-known and popular Wishbone Chair, also called CH24.
Material and format
The traditional furniture manufacturer Carl Hansen has always stood for first-class designer furniture. Although the processing standards have been modernised over time, a large part of the manufacturing process still takes place manually.
Qualified cabinetmakers take care of every single CH22 chair to create a perfect end product. The covering of the seat with paper yarn alone takes more than an hour of working time. Therefore, pieces of furniture by Carl Hansen are particularly durable and last for generations.
