Today, this design classic from 1954 is affectionately known as the Mama Bear armchair, as it was designed by Hans J. Wegner two years after the legendary CH71 Mini Bear armchair. Its sculptural silhouette was and is a true masterpiece of craftsmanship. To mark its 70th anniversary, Carl Hansen & Søn has now launched the Umber special edition. The woollen upholstery in natural colours perfectly reflects the current zeitgeist and lends every room a harmonious, soft and cosy atmosphere.
Carl Hansen & Søn - Danish design since 1908
What began in 1908 as a small furniture workshop on the Danish island of Funen has developed into a successful and globally recognised design company. Since the carpenter Carl Hansen founded the company, two aspects have taken centre stage: an uncompromising commitment to the finest craftsmanship and collaboration with exceptional designers. The development of Carl Hansen & Søn was significantly influenced by the well-known Danish designer Hans J. Wegner - the "Master of Chairs". The creative relationship with him began in 1949 when Carl Hansen's son allowed the then unknown designer to design an extensive furniture series. This collaboration resulted in some of the greatest chair classics of all time, such as the world-famous CH24 Wishbone Chair.
