Black is the new black: CH88T chair Frame steel black from Carl Hansen & Søn
Designer Hans J. Wegner's approach to design was very experimental. It is therefore not surprising that the CH88T is an artistic combination of wood and steel. The design chair shows the designer's playful approach to designs and materials particularly well.
The chair is versatile, elegant and very functional. The practical design is stackable and shows a special combination of the materials steel and wood. A minimalistic design with an oval wooden seat and steam-curved backrest - we think it's a masterpiece!
The original design dates from 1955 and was shown at the international Helsingborg exhibition in Sweden. On the occasion of Wegner's 100th birthday in 2014, Carl Hansen & Søn will restart production.
Designer Hans J. Wegner
As one of the most creative, innovative and also productive Danish designers, Wegner is often called the master of the chair. During his lifetime he has designed more than 500 chairs, many of which are masterpieces. The legendary Wishbone Chair is probably one of his most famous designs and has been in continuous production since 1950. Wegner's focus as a designer was to bring out the soul of the furniture pieces through their simplicity and functionality.
Material and size
The frame of the chair is made of black steel and the seat and backrest are made of beech or oak wood in different variations. The chair is 57 cm wide, 44.5 cm deep and 76.5 cm high.
