Flexible luminaire: Demetra Reading Floor floor luminaire from Artemide

With its arm, the Demetra offers the same freedom as a traditional table lamp in the standing version. In terms of operation and light output, the Reading Floor is in no way inferior.

The luminaire produces a warm light tone, the brightness and intensity of which can be adjusted by means of a dimmer.

Designer Naoto Fukasawa

Naoto Fukasawa was born in Yamanashi in 1956. He studied design at Tama Art University. First he designed microelectronic devices and clocks. He moved to the USA at the end of the 80s and joined the international design and innovation consultancy IDEO. At that time, Fukasawa mainly designed computers and electronic devices for Silicon Valley, which was emerging at the time. Upon his return to Japan in 1996, he established the IDEO office in Tokyo until he founded his own studio in 2003.

His original design approach is internationally acclaimed. For him, a simple design symbolizes the harmonious relationship between user and object. With his designs, Fukasawa defines the boundaries of the relationship between objects and people. He has received many international awards, e.g. the title Honorable Royal Designer for Industry from the Royal Society of Arts in 2007.

Material and size

The luminaire is made of aluminium and technopolymer. It is 31 cm wide, 20 cm deep and 35 cm high. The base has a diameter of 20 cm. In total, the luminaire can be extended up to 102 cm.
