Timeless design
The designer Sebastian Herkner, born in 1981 in Bad Mergentheim, is a true multi-talent. In our shop, you will find a wide variety of designer furniture created by him. With the 118 wooden chair, he has once again done a great job: The seat is covered with the typical Thonet wickerwork, the so-called Viennese wickerwork. The combination of the simple beech wood frame and the light-coloured seat appears modern and fresh. The curved backrest makes for comfortable sitting.
Thonet - over 200 years of tradition
The Frankenberg-based manufacturer stands for durability and an irrepressible drive for innovation. Thonet was the first manufacturer to bring bentwood furniture onto the market and the first to sell tubular steel furniture. Michael Thonet founded his own workshop in Boppard am Rhein in 1819. In the 1830s he experimented with strips of veneer boiled in glue and is therefore regarded as the inventor of "furniture made of bent wood". In 1842, he was invited to Vienna by the Austrian state chancellor Prince Metternich and the coffee house culture there laid the foundation for Thonet's later success. Given this desire for innovation, it is not surprising that Thonet also cultivated links with the Bauhaus and Marcel Breuer. Thus Thonet implemented Breuer's experiments with cold-bent tubular steel and produced the famous cantilever chairs.
Material and format
The 118 by Thonet is made of beech wood and wickerwork. The wickerwork used is a natural product, which is why the quality and width of the individual threads can vary. The production of the furniture by Thonet is carried out with a high technical and craftsmanship effort in order to guarantee the usual level of quality. For example, each chair with a wicker covering is specially checked once again before leaving the factory.
The 42 cm wide, 50 cm deep and 80 cm high designer chair has a seat height of 46 cm and is available in five different versions.
