Doesn't just make children's eyes light up: Liliput hippopotamus grey by Kay Bojesen

The wooden animals designed by Kay Bojesen have been populating children's rooms since 1951. You only have to look at these little friends for a moment and they bring a smile to your face and encourage children to play. Designed in 1955 and produced in a limited edition in 2025, this little hippopotamus is not only a perfect gift for christenings, weddings or other special occasions, but many a lover will also enjoy giving it to themselves.

The designer with the imagination of a child: Kay Bojesen

The fine craftsman and designer Kay Bojesen has created more than 2000 different designs over the course of his career. This makes him one of the most productive Danish craftsmen of the 20th century. In addition to the well-known and popular monkeys and other wooden animals, his work also includes jewellery, cutlery, teapots and silver goblets. Kay Bojesen initially trained as a silversmith with Georg Jensen. When his son Otto was born in 1919, he became interested in children's toys. He carved small wooden figures and finally devoted himself entirely to working with wood in the 1930s. However, it was never his aim to produce lifelike copies, but rather imaginative variations that spring from the imagination of children.
