Modern sofa: Polder Sofa Vitra
In designer Hella Jongerius' home country, the Netherlands, the term Polder refers to the area of land reclaimed from the sea for agricultural use by means of dykes and drainage ditches. These low-lying areas are decisive for the name of the Polder Sofa by Vitra, which is equally low-lying and emphasises the horizontal. The idiosyncratic and asymmetrical shapes and the combination of appealing colours give the sofa a very special cult character.
The sofa was already designed in 2005, after adjustments were made to the Polder upholstery in 2015, the designer sofa was given a new coat of paint in 2022. Together with the designer, new and appealing shades were found to perfectly suit the iconic piece of furniture!
