The Bertoia bar stool is a relative of the Side Chair, a classic in the history of design, and was created by the designer of the same name, Harry Bertoia. In 1950, Hans and Florence Knoll offered the sculptor Harry Bertoia the freedom to apply his artistic concepts to the design of a chair for their collection, which was still in its early stages. "We decided to let him work in complete freedom so as not to hinder the creativity that already distinguished him in the panorama of designers at that time," Florence Knoll recalls. In his constant quest for perfection, Bertoia worked by hand and tried out many variations to shape the space, using a light, airy structure.
The bar stool is characterised by its extremely comfortable seat and its adaptability to a wide range of contexts, from the home to the contract sector.

The stool has a chrome-plated or powder-coated frame. It is 54 cm wide, 58 cm deep and 104 cm high. The seat height is 74 cm.
