Simple and sustainable: Hal RE Wood chair from Vitra
The clear and unmistakable expression of the Hal RE Wood chair characterises it as part of the well-known Hal collection by Jasper Morrison . The comfortable seat shell made of recycled material and its different colours make the designer chair the perfect furnishing item for a wide variety of styles. Despite its simplicity, the high-quality wooden frame gives it a sophisticated appearance.
The Hal chair collection
Unusual designs are less easy to combine with existing furnishings than plain and simple designs. Jasper Morrisons also sees it this way and has designed a collection with the Hal chairs, which is characterised by clear and contemporary shapes and multifunctional seat shells.
New to the Hal family are the RE models, which take the collection to a contemporary level and use recycled plastic from household waste for the seat shells. This causes fewer climate-damaging emissions compared to original plastic and consumes less energy.
Jasper Morrison - Designer
Designer Jasper Morrison lives and works in London and in Tokyo. He describes his work as "super normal " - because instead of unusual shapes, colours and materials, he focuses on the reinterpretation of the tried and tested and the further development of familiar solutions. He has been working with Vitra since 1989 .
Environmentally conscious design for the future: the new RE collection
From January 2024, Vitra will be focussing on sustainability by making all seat shells of the Eames Plastic Chairs from recycled post-consumer plastic . The seat shells are provided with a minimal glass fibre reinforcement for stability and quality, whereby the glass fibre content of an Eames Plastic Chair RE seat shell is 10%. The use of recycled packaging waste gives the seat shells minimal colour pigmentation.
Material and format
The Hal RE Wood chair consists of a non-stackable wooden base, which is available in natural oak, dark oak or walnut black pigmented. The wood comes from Western Europe and/or Poland in the case of the oak and from the USA in the case of the walnut.
The seat shell is made from recycled plastic and is available in various colours. The different colours have fine speckles due to the composition of the recycled material. To a certain extent, the seat shells are reminiscent of a natural material and, in particular in combination with the characteristic wooden legs of HAL RE Wood, create a cosy look.
The chair is 47.5 cm wide, 51 cm deep and 79.5 cm high. The seat height is 43.5 cm.
