Architectural: Crate side table by Hay
Sustainable design is not a trend of the recent decades. This is proven by the Crate collection of the architect and designer Gerrit Rietveld from the 1930s. The basis for the design were surplus wooden transport crates, which should be given new life with the robust outdoor series.
Like the original design, the new edition of the Crate side table is characterised by balanced proportions and a simple, architectural construction. Equipped with an additional shelf, Crate becomes functional outdoor furniture that feels at home in a variety of interior styles!
Architecture and interior in harmony: Gerrit Rietveld
Gerrit Thomas Rietveld is one of the greatest Dutch architects and furniture designers of all time. After training as a cabinetmaker and opening his own shop, Rietveld turned to architecture. As a follower of the well-known De Stijl movement, his style was progressive and always pursued harmony between architecture and interior.
After furniture pieces such as the Red and Blue Chair and the ZigZag Chair, the famous Crate collection followed in 1934. This reflected Rietveld's mission to create well-designed and affordable furniture for the masses - values that are also among HAY's top priorities. Perfect basis for the collaboration between Rietveld Originals and HAY and the relaunch of the legendary Crate series!
Material and format
Crate is made of pine wood and has a water-based lacquer finish. In addition to the natural version, Crate is also available in four colour variants.
The table is 49.5 cm wide and deep and 45 cm high.
