Luceplan - Made in Light
Luceplan is founded by Riccardo Sarfatti, Sandra Severi and Paolo Rizzatto in Milan in 1978. The company obtains a reputation first through high-tech designs for major projects. From the eighties onward the project lamps are available for a wide audience.
From the beginning Paolo Rizzatto, together with Alberto Meda, shaped the unique appearance of the lamps. In 1984 the engineer Meda is made a partner of Luceplan. It is his job to perfect the combination of technology and aesthetics.
The visionaries of Luceplan have the goal to design lamps that enrich the living area with pleasant light and attractive design. The production is to be sustainable and energy efficient. These principles lead to the development of an extremely innovative production technology. Luceplan is regarded as an absolute pioneer in the field of LED lighting technology.
The architects of Luceplan
The lamps of Luceplan are characterized by their simple and elegant shape, complexity and high functionality. All this makes clear the architectural principle of the founders. The architecture is still the central point of reference for the development of new lighting. Cooperation with internationally recognized designers continually provides fresh ideas.
The Milanese Paolo Rizatto is born in 1941. He studied architecture and worked as a freelance architect and designer. In 1978 he is one of the co-founders of Luceplan. He is also a lecturer at institutes and universities in Milan, New York, St. Petersburg and Moscow. Together with Alberto Meda he designs Fortebraccio: the first desk lamp with halogen light, which does not require a transformer.
- Riccardo Sarfatti (1940 - 2010)
Riccardo Sarfatti is the son of the light pioneer Gino Sarfatti, who once founded Arteluce. He studies architecture in Milan and then becomes a lecturer for Urban Planning and professor of the history of architecture in Venice. Together with Rizatto and Meda he developed the revolutionary lighting series Metropolis, which can be used with either incandescent bulbs, halogen or fluorescent lamps.
Alberto Meda is born in 1945 in Lenno Tremezzina. He studies mechanical engineering and works as a technical director, before he sets up his own business as a designer in Milan. Together with Paolo Rizatto he is character-defining for Luceplan. For his suspension lamp Titania its interchangeable colour filters he receives the Design Plus Award in 1992.
The products of Luceplan
A true eye catcher is the lighting series Hope, which is named after the world famous diamond. Thanks to its thin Fresnel lenses it sparkles like a gemstone.
The impressive pendant lamp Plissé can be pulled apart like an accordion.
A real classic is the Luceplan lighting series Costanza. It is extremely versatile thanks to its many different versions.
