Classic beauty: Lukki chair Artek

Lukki by Artek is a classically beautiful design chair that shines with its individual details. The high, very short armrests and the ergonomically adapted curved seat shell make up its very special charm. Due to the unusual lines of the frame, the chair designed by Ilmari Tapiovaara appears to be made of one piece. Originally, the thin-legged chairs were designed for the Technical University in Helsinki in 1951. They have remained correspondingly functional: stackable, robust and, thanks to the short arms, can be used very close to the table. The Lukki is a Finnish cult, available in black, stone white or sage green. Whether in the kitchen, at the desk or in the dining room, this classic beauty fits everywhere.

Finnish Designer Ilmari Tapiovaara

Ilmari Tapiovaara, modernist designer, was born in Hämeenlinna, Finland, in 1914. He graduated as an interior and industrial designer from the Institute of Industrial Design in Helsinki in 1937. During his studies, he worked for Alvar Aalto in the London Artek office in 1935/1936. After graduating, he also spent six months in Paris, where he was employed as an assistant in the office of the architect Le Corbusier.

Artek - always modern

Artek was founded in Helsinki in 1935 by four young idealists: Alvar and Aino Aalto, Maire Gullichsen and Nils-Gustav Hahl. With their designs, they wanted to promote a modern culture of living. The radical spirit of its founders still lives in Artek today and so the company produces furniture from the world of modern design that stands at the interface of design, architecture and art. They are characterised by clarity, functionality and poetic simplicity.
