A piece of design history - for the shelf, but also to play with - is the Man Ray chess set, created by the designer of the same name.
At first glance, Man Ray's choice of pieces may seem a little bizarre - but every single shape is well thought out. For example, Man Ray took his cue from Euclid's classical geometric forms, which are considered ideal shapes in geometry: Cube, sphere, pyramid and cone.
But that's not all - the assignment of these shapes to King, Queen & Co. is no coincidence either. For example, the pyramid in Egypt stands for royal rule and must therefore naturally represent the king in the game of chess. In contrast, the medieval headgear of a queen was shaped like a cone. Clearly, the queen in Man Ray's chess set is represented by the cone!
Material and format
As you would expect from the manufacturer Klein & More, the Man Ray chess set is also made to the highest standards of workmanship. In this case, Klein & More chooses high-grade beech wood of solid quality as the material. Each individual chess piece is carefully milled to achieve an optimal feel. The chess board is made of beech veneer wood. It measures 40 x 40 cm. Included in the delivery are the board and all the corresponding pieces.
