The basis for their design is the technique of bending wood, which was perfected by Michael Thonet in the 1850s. This made the first series production of the chair possible. Thus, the 214 could be sent all over the world disassembled in parts and assembled on site. Thus, the classic has found a place at many tables in private and public spaces for far more than 150 years.
