Description
Versatile elegance: Mikado Arm Chair from Vitra
Mikado does not impress with its intrusive shapes, but rather with its outstanding seating comfort, whether at the dining table at home, in a stylish restaurant or in a busy meeting room.
The sitting experience on Mikado is characterised by round upholstery and the intelligent movement of the backrest. An ingeniously simple mechanism, cleverly concealed under the seat, allows the backrest to recline gently so that you can relax in any situation.
Thinking ahead: environmentally conscious design for the future
But Mikado is not only comfortable, it is also designed to be sustainable through and through. The covers are not glued and can be easily removed for cleaning or replacement. The legs can be replaced individually and offer the option of being swapped for environmentally friendly material options such as wood or recycled aluminium.
Design duo Barber & Osgerby
Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby (both born in 1969) studied architecture and interior design together at the Royal College of Art in London. They founded their own architecture and design practice, Barber Osgerby, in 1996. Together they work at the interface of architecture, industrial and furniture design.
Material and format
With different leg options, two backrests, a variety of fabric and leather covers and a wide range of colours, Mikado offers almost endless combination possibilities.
The seat plate is made of aluminium with a high recycled content, while the backrest is made of 100% recycled post-consumer polypropylene, which can be easily separated from the foam and recycled. This well thought-out concept allows Mikado to be customised over the long term and makes it a particularly durable choice. The oak wood used is from Europe, Czech Republic.
The Mikado Armchair measures 59 cm in width, 56.5 cm in depth and 81 cm in height. The seat height is 44 cm, the seat depth is 46 cm and the seat width is 45.5 cm.
