Bauhaus composition: Moholy-Nagy wristwatch 021-02 from Walter Gropius
The Moholy-Nagy watch collection is a tribute to the famous, expressive collages and pictorial compositions of the painter, photographer and typographer László Moholy-Nagy from the 1920s. As Moholy-Nagy is regarded as one of the most influential teachers at the Bauhaus, the design of the dials is arranged in such a way that the elements appear to be abstract and representative of the Bauhaus founding year 1919 at 19:19 CET.
László Moholy-Nagy
László Moholy-Nagy was one of the great pioneers of photography. Born in Hungary, he began experimenting with photograms early on by draping scraps of paper, spirals, feathers and flowers on photographic paper and placing them in developer fluid.
in 1923, Walter Gropius appointed him as a master at the State Bauhaus in Weimar and put him in charge of the preliminary course and the metal workshop. At the instigation of Moholy-Nagy, photography became increasingly important at the Bauhaus in Dessau and eventually became an official teaching subject.
For the "painter with the camera", photography was an ideal means of expression. Together with his wife Lucia, he experimented with a wide variety of photographic techniques, such as light structures, light effects, photograms and photomontages as well as negative-positive photographs.
Perspective, space and time
The watch collections of the Bauhaus brand Walter Gropius celebrate the Bauhaus style in its purest form. They shine with their skilful interplay of minimalism and functionalism as well as a colourfulness true to Walter Gropius' saying: "Colourful is my favourite colour!".
The Bauhaus watch collections were created by designer Daniel Eltner. All his designs are based on the three basic shapes of the Bauhaus - square, triangle and circle - and play with the concepts of perspective, space and time.
