Description
Absolute classic: Panton Chair Classic by Vitra
After years of searching for a manufacturer who could produce his all-plastic chair from a single mould, Verner Panton found a suitable partner in Vitra in 1963. Together they developed the Panton Chair, which was presented in 1967. It was a real sensation and won numerous awards. It is still available today in its original version with a glossy lacquer finish.
One of the first chairs even made it into the famous Museum of Modern Art in New Yorkbecause in the meantime it has become one of the Classics of modern furniture design.
Verner Panton - Design Genius
Verner Panton was born in Denmark and studied at the Royal Academy of Arts in Copenhagen after attending the technical school in Odense. After his graduation, he worked together with the famous designer Arne Jacobsen from 1950-52 and founded his own design studio in 1955.
Like the Amoebe series, his other designs bear witness to his preference for strong colours and geometric shapes. The Panton Chair, which was created in collaboration with Vitra in the 1960s, also clearly shows this.
Material and Format
The Panton Chair is made of polyurethane hard foam and has a glossy lacquer finish. It is 50 cm wide, 60 cm deep and 83 cm high. The seat height is 41.5 cm.
