Light-footed: Paperclip table by Knoll

To complement their Handkerchief chair, Massimo and Lella Vignelli designed the Paperclip table. Following the curved wire frame of the chair and its visual lightness, the designers were able to transfer the essence of what made Handkerchief so elegant to the Paperclip table.

The combination of chrome-plated steel and crystal glass not only make the designer piece look simple and noble, but also make it a versatile and durable piece of furniture that fits in well with almost any interior style. Thanks to its visual lightness, the glass table also fits wonderfully into small living rooms or offices.

Knoll International - The belief in modern design

In 1938, Knoll International was founded by Hans and Florence Knoll, who used the creative genius of the Bauhaus School and the Cranbrook Academy of Art to create new types of furniture and environments for the workplace. Their approach was to combine craftsmanship with technology through the use of design. Florence Knoll also developed the idea of the modern office and pioneered interior design.

Knoll is internationally recognised for creating workplace and home furniture that inspires, evolves and endures. With its thoughtful, inventive products, Knoll caters to individual work styles and endures for multiple generations. Knoll's commitment to modern, sustainable design and understanding of the workplace results in a unique portfolio. Here, the latest collections line up alongside modern classics and iconic products.

For more than 80 years, Knoll has remained true to the Bauhaus design philosophy that modern furniture should complement architectural space, not compete with it. That is why Knoll uses modern design to connect people with their work, their lives, their world. The essence of it all: modern living and working with a contemporary approach without losing touch with the past.

Modernist aesthetics: Massimo & Lella Vignelli

Massimo and Lella Vignelli both studied architecture before founding the Vignelli Office of Design and Architecture in 1960. In the 1970s, they worked as graphic and advertising design consultants for Knoll. During this time, Vignelli was commissioned by Knoll to revise the corporate identity and graphics programme. The result was the Knoll logo in Helvetica and the introduction of Pantone Super Warm Red as the corporate colour. The Vignellis' work formed the basis for all basic communication needs, including stationery, business cards, brochures and four-colour ads for trade magazines and publications such as The New Yorker, Vogue and Fortune.

In 1971, they founded their New York firm, Vignelli Associates, to focus on projects that combined their talents in industrial, furniture and graphic design. Here they apply a modernist aesthetic to every commission, polishing each artefact to a high gloss to reflect clarity, beauty and functionality. Vignelli Associates also produced two furniture designs for Knoll: the Handkerchief chair (co-designed with David Law) and the Paperclip table. Their diverse portfolio also includes corporate identity work for IBM, American Airlines and Bloomingdales, as well as signage for the New York City underground system and Washington, D.C. In 2003, the couple received the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award from the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum.

Material and format

The tabletop of the filigree glass table is made of 12 mm thick tempered crystal glass. The base is a frame made of high-gloss chrome-plated steel, which provides a wonderful contrast. When you look at the table from above, you can also admire the beautiful geometric shapes of the table legs through the glass. The skid frame is fitted with plastic glides.

The Paperclip table is 71 cm high and available with three different tabletop sizes: 91.5 cm, 107 cm and 120 cm. In this version, the table is only suitable for indoor use.

Note: All tables are shipped disassembled. It is necessary to mount the table top on the base.
