Flexible: Physix conference chair by Vitra
The Physix conference chair, with its continuous seat shell formed from a stretched textile, stands in a long line of chair icons and yet it decisively develops the typology further. For designer Alberto Meda has created a interplay of three different elements that result in a new and dynamic seating experience: the flexible frame construction, the elastic cover and the stabilising mechanism.
This construction creates a visually and physically light swivel chair that convinces with high comfort and formal restraint .
Designer Alberto Meda
Alberto Meda was born in Italy in 1945. He studied mechanical engineering at the Polytechnic in Milan and was technical director at the well-known Italian manufacturer Kartell from 1972-1979. Afterwards, he worked as a freelance designer for various companies, such as Alias, Alessi and Vitra. In the meantime, he also works as a lecturer and gives lectures.
Already since 1994 Alberto Medahas been working with Vitra. With his elegant office chair and table designs, he has made a significant contribution to the successful Office Collection from Vitra.
Material and format
The mechanism and backrest bracket of the Physix swivel chair are made of powder-coated aluminium. The chair has a synchronous movement sequence, individual fine adjustment of the backrest counterforce and a lock in the upright position.
The flexible frame and armrests are made of polyamide. The one-piece seat and backrest surface consists of a free-stretch knitted or woven fabric cover. The base is a five-star base in die-cast aluminium.
