Elegant sunbathing area: PK81 Daybed by Fritz Hansen
The PK81 Daybed is a square version of Poul Kjærholm's iconic PK80 daybed, made by Halldor Gunløgsson and Jørn Nielsen for the public area of Tårnby's new town hall.
Like its model, the daybed also illustrates how Poul Kjærholm develops historical models and picks out the essentials. He masterfully creates a balance between design and choice of materials. The inspiration for the look of the cosy designer furniture comes from the Bauhaus tradition. Today, the Fritz Hansen classic is on display at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
Fritz Hansen - visionary design since 1872
Fritz Hansen is an exclusive design brand characterised by timeless collections and world-famous classic and contemporary furniture, lighting and accessories. The company was founded in Denmark in 1872. In the 1950s, the well-known designer Arne Jacobsen was responsible for design at Fritz Hansen. in 1979, the previously family-run company became part of Skandinavisk Holding. At the same time, Verner Panton was at the centre of attention as a leading avant-garde figure and had a huge influence on the manufacturer's design. And so Fritz Hansen is constantly evolving, while always keeping its long history and tradition in mind by continuing to collaborate with international and visionary designers.
Material and format
The PK81 daybed is upholstered in natural leather. The frame is made of steel or matt brushed spring steel. The high-quality designer furniture measures 140 x 140 x 30 cm.

- Rustic leather: Vegetable-tanned, completely chrome-free aniline leather without protective varnish with a light impregnation and visible natural features. Becomes lighter in colour with use and acquires a patina. Thickness 1.2-1.4 mm.
- Natural leather: Vegetable-tanned, completely chrome-free natural leather without colour or protective lacquer. Darkens with use according to and acquires a patina. Thickness 1.2-1.4 mm.
- Grace leather: Vegetable & chrome-tanned aniline leather, full-grain, with a light structure and light impregnation. Becomes lighter in colour with use and gets patina. Thickness approx. 1.4-1.6 mm.
- Aura leather: Chrome-tanned, processed, strong grain and hard-wearing surface. High light fastness. Thickness 1.4-1.6 mm.
- Embrace leather: Thickness 1.2-1.4 mm. chrome-tanned, grained, exceptional soft aniline with special waxing for a slightly oily surface. Visible natural features (e.g. neck creases)
