Sleeping cats should not be woken: Resting Cat from Vitra

Hardly anything radiates more cosiness and satisfaction than a sleeping cat. The animals are masters of relaxation. The ceramic figure by the Swedish design duo Front shows this in a special simplicity.

Just like the smooth gait of a cat, the figure is formed without corners and edges and appears flowing.

Project Resting Animals

Numerous works by Front deal with the systematic observation of sleep, including the hibernation of animals.

The Resting Animals project investigated the close connection between human emotions and figurative objects. Randomly selected people were asked to name the most emotionally enriching object in their lives. Many of the answers related to animals with which either a common story or specific attributes were associated.

The Resting Cat is a simply shaped sleeping ceramic cat in white, beige or light blue. It conveys a feeling of satisfaction and comfort.

Material and format

The cat is made of ceramic. The surface of the figure was glazed. It is 27 cm wide and 12 cm high.
