Timeless elegance: cantilever armchair S 411 by Thonet

The S 411 is a much-loved classic! It's hard to believe that it was designed as early as 1932, yet it still impresses with its timeless, elegant look and high seating comfort. Visually, the cantilever model, which is now manufactured with high-quality spring core upholstery, brings lightness to any room. The S 411 armchair can be customised almost without limits and can therefore always be integrated harmoniously into the room concept.

Thonet - over 200 years of tradition

The Frankenberg-based manufacturer stands for consistency and the irrepressible drive for innovation. Thonet was the first manufacturer to bring bentwood furniture onto the market and the first to sell tubular steel furniture. Michael Thonet founded his own workshop in Boppard am Rhein in 1819. In the 1830s he experimented with strips of veneer boiled in glue and is therefore regarded as the inventor of "furniture made of bent wood". In 1842, he was invited to Vienna by the Austrian state chancellor Prince Metternich and the coffee house culture there laid the foundation for Thonet's later success. Given this desire for innovation, it is not surprising that Thonet also cultivated links with the Bauhaus and Marcel Breuer. Thus Thonet implemented Breuer's experiments with cold-bent tubular steel and produced the famous cantilever chairs.

Material and format

The Thonet cantilever chair S 411 is made of chromed tubular steel and upholstered with a spring core. It is 63 cm wide, 79 cm deep and 79 cm high. The 59 cm high armrests are fitted with armrest pads in stained solid beech wood.
