Renaissance of the Breuer chest of drawers: S41-2 chest of drawers by Tecta

Based on Marcel Breuer's S41 chest of drawers, Florian Borkenhagen stacked six drawer elements for his version and gave each one its own individual handle. In this way, he picks up on the contrasting black and white alternation of the original and interprets his own contrast.

Design by Florian Borkenhagen

After graduating in 1986, Borkenhagen worked in Rome in the fields of film equipment, stage design and furniture design. He then ran a studio in Paris for furniture and objects. From 1990-1995 he worked in Como in Italy and founded the Laboratorio Como, a workshop for industrial archaeology and interdisciplinary research, furniture, spaces. From 1996 he had a workshop in Munich and gave workshops in Dakar, Abidjan and Cairo. Since 1999 he has run the sculpture project travel a head in Hamburg and since 2005 he has been a professor of spatial concept and design at the Academy of Fashion & Design in Hamburg.

Borkenhagen's designs deliberately straddle the line between art and design. His furniture and interior designs often have a sculptural character.

Tecta - Bauhaus Synonym

For over 40 years, Tecta has been synonymous with Bauhaus. Today, the family business is run by the fourth generation of the family, Christian Drescher in Lauenförde. Tecta has dedicated itself to the task of preserving the ideas and designs of the Bauhaus period in Weimar and Dessau, constantly reviewing them and also rethinking them in series such as bauhausNowhaus. The evolutionary approach of constant improvement is based on the use of modern techniques and innovative materials.

Short-lived trends not only put a strain on the wallet, but also on our environment, because they are not sustainable. For this reason, Tecta wants to extend the life cycle of furnishings. Behind every piece of designer furniture is the idea that its everlasting character makes it timeless.
