Enigmatic: Sangaku coffee table by Driade
Sangaku - sounds kind of Japanese, you think? That's right. Sangaku originated in Japan and refers to artistically painted wooden boards that depict geometric tasks or mathematical puzzles. It was precisely these images that inspired the young Italian designer Elena Salmistraro to create her colourful Sangaku table collection.
Complex spectacle
Salmistraro's idea of capturing the Japanese puzzle game in a piece of furniture opens up especially when viewed from above. Four circles with different sizes and structures unite to form a geometric whole. The vertical, slender legs create floating layers, which in turn create the perfect combination of surfaces and empty spaces.
But no matter from which angle it is perceived, Sangaku delivers a complex, energetic spectacle of colours, shapes, layers and intersections. The special highlight of the collection is clearly the lowest table top, for which Salmistraro created four artistic digital prints.
Strong emotions
The designer Elena Salmistraro, born in Milan in 1983, founded her own professional studio just one year after her industrial design studies, where she has been working on creative product design and architecture projects ever since. Her creations are strongly characterised by a love of detail and the harmonious exploration of forms. Expressive and emotional, Salmistraro's designs convince with an unmistakable style that moves between illustration, design and fine art. The best example of this is the Sangaku collection designed for Driade.
Circle convolute
Four variants adorn the Sangaku table collection, all of which inspire with a unique, artistic digital print, each surrounded by a colour-coordinated, powder-coated steel structure.
This structure comprises a total of four circular plates. The two shelves made of sheet steel have a radius of 42 cm. The two larger shelves made of 6 mm thick, extra-clear glass have a radius of 82 cm. The entire table is thus 100 cm wide, 82 cm deep and 41 cm high.
The bottom glass shelf has a digital print in four different graphics, the other completes the look of the table with a grey colour gradient.
