Functional simplicity: B 9 a and b side table set by Thonet

The B 9 set table series by Thonet is characterised by its purist design and its versatile uses. The small tables are perfect as coffee tables, side tables for seating groups, as special places for decorative objects or simply as practical shelves. They can be stylishly combined and pushed under each other to save space after use.

Simple, effective construction

Inspired by the bentwood tradition, Marcel Breuer experimented with bent tubular steel already in the 1920s and 1930s. Among his first designs were the B 9 set tables, originally conceived for the canteen of the Bauhaus building in Dessau. In the meantime, the simple set table made of chromed tubular steel and rectangular top has also become an absolute classic that cuts an elegant figure anywhere.

Thonet - over 200 years of tradition

The Frankenberg-based manufacturer stands for durability and an irrepressible drive for innovation. Thonet was the first manufacturer to bring bentwood furniture onto the market and the first to sell tubular steel furniture. Michael Thonet founded his own workshop in Boppard am Rhein in 1819. In the 1830s he experimented with strips of veneer boiled in glue and is therefore regarded as the inventor of "furniture made of bent wood". In 1842, he was invited to Vienna by the Austrian state chancellor Prince Metternich and the coffee house culture there laid the foundation for Thonet's later success. Given this desire for innovation, it is not surprising that Thonet also cultivated links with the Bauhaus and Marcel Breuer. Thus Thonet implemented Breuer's experiments with cold-bent tubular steel and produced the famous cantilever chairs.

Material and format

With its 45 cm width, 39 cm depth and 45 cm width, the Thonet B 9 a fits perfectly with the B 10 table. Two of the side tables can be slid under the top here.

The Thonet B 9 b is 52 cm wide, 39 cm deep and 50 cm high.

The frame of the Thonet side tables is made of chromed tubular steel, the top of lacquered MDF. Black, white or red? No matter which colour you choose, with this set you will always strike the right note!
