The once forgotten Bauhaus stool
The world's first seat made of riveted, lightweight strip steel was produced back in 1909, marking the start of the development of ergonomic seating furniture. At that time, the Rowac stool provided stable support for people working seated at large machines. In the 1920s, the piece of furniture became so popular that architects specifically chose it for their projects. This included Walter Gropius, who used the Rowac stool for his new Bauhaus building in Dessau.
Material and format
The bar stool, which is faithfully manufactured in the Ore Mountains, consists of a seat made from a PEFC-certified type of wood that has been treated with hard wax oil. (Wood is a natural material, grains and colours vary, so each seat is unique) The frame is made of micrometre-thin powder-coated metal. The design stool is 52.5 cm wide, 35.5 cm deep and 75 cm high. The seat height is 75 cm.
