Classic: Tolomeo Faretto wall lamp by Artemide
The Tolomeo Faretto could be used as a classic symbol for a wall lamp spotlight. The aluminium used and the proportions give the luminaire a simple, restrained look. As a contrast, the alternation between the shiny polished base and the matt anodised head gives the luminaire a certain tension.
Design duo Michele De Lucchi & Giancarlo Fassina
Michele de Lucchi graduated in architecture at the Politecnico in Milan. From 1989 to 1993, he worked with Studio Sottsass Associati on various architectural and industrial design projects before setting up his own studio in 1994. Among other things, he worked on important architectural projects in north-eastern Italy, such as Enel's historic archive centre in Mestre.
Giancarlo Fassina quickly concentrated on lighting design after his studies at the Milan Politecnico. Light is part of Fassina's vocation - he is fascinated by every detail and studied shadows, angles and exposure factors.
Together with Michele De Lucchi, he won the Compasso d'Oro in 1989 for the design of Artemide's Tolomeo luminaires.
Material and format
The design lamp consists of a base made of shiny aluminium with a head made of matt anodised aluminium.
