Danish design conquers America: Via57 armchair Fritz Hansen
Via57 is much more than just a chair - of that designer Lars Larsen is certain. Alongside Larsen, the industrial designer, architect Bjarke Ingels and brand expert Martin Skibsted also contributed to the design of the iconic armchair. Together, the three designers form the KiBiSi trio, which was founded in 2009.
But what makes VIA57 so special? The first thing that catches the eye is the unusual shape. However, a closer look reveals that it is primarily the shifted arrangement of the seat and chair legs that makes VIA57 by Fritz Hansen stand out from the crowd.
However, this extravagant design is not just something for the eye, but has a purpose: you can sit on the VIA57 designer armchair in many different ways. And: VIA57 not only works as solo furniture, but also in a group. Two armchairs positioned next to each other even form a small couch. Simply ingenious!
The VIA57 designer armchair was originally designed for the New York building of the same name, which is located directly on the Hudson River and will house flats, gardens and communal facilities.
Based on the tetrahedron geometry of the VIA57WEST building, the shape of the armchair reflects the architecture of the building. The reinterpretation of the American skyscraper - enriched with the charm of a Scandinavian block of houses - is also reflected in the design of the corresponding armchair: American comfort meets Scandinavian elegance in the VIA57 armchair.
